I would have to say that is is C.(electrons jumping to lower energy levels, losing energy as they go). If someone guesses A then I think they are thinking of string theory. B don't even make sense. An electron doesn't drop into the nucleus. D protons to jump from level to level

The electrons interior the atoms of flame are being pushed up from their popular, low potential states into greater potential states by potential of their collisions with one yet another. those collisions are energetic because of the intense temperature of the flame. whilst the excited electrons start to fall returned off from their intense, excited potential states in the direction of their typical low potential states, they are in a position to purely make downward jumps of specific distances. each and every distance it fairly is accepted for the electrons to bounce downward, in the direction of the nucleus, corresponds to a particular coloration interior the spectrum. in view that purely down-jumps of specific distances take place, it follows that purely specific hues, and no others will look interior the sunshine from the nice and cozy gasoline. If the fabric it fairly is burning is a compound with a molecule of two or extra atoms, the flame will tutor bands interior the spectrum particularly of narrow little strains. it fairly is because of the fact each and every of the potential states for the molecule is changed by potential of a vibrational state and a rotational state. this suggests that when an electron leaves one potential state, it could accomplish that at countless different varieties of achieveable vibrational states, and additionally whilst it arrives on the recent potential state it could accomplish that at countless different varieties of achieveable vibrational states. even however, not all the vibrational states is the two probable. some are extra probably than others, and this provides the bands of molecular radiation a "slant" down from a tall (extra extreme) section at one component. This tall section is named a "band head." The slant may well be the two in the direction of the pink or in the direction of the blue end of the spectrum. (In my journey, the band head is oftentimes on the blue component and the slope is going down in the direction of the pink component.)
