that i sometimes get a recorded message saying ' this phone does not receive incoming calls'?? Why do people choose this as an option?? What are the benefits??

Some phone companies offer that as an option, for people who may be away for extended periods.

This isnt really a true message. Thats just the phone company telling you "The customer cannot take calls because he was past due on his bill" without telling you the customer is a deadbeat to everybody else.

They dislike getting *spam* phone calls, like telemarketers. (Believe it or not, in the extreme case, I once received a phone call, a tape recorded voice, asking me whether I wasn't tired of receiving pre-recorded telemarketing phone calls...). Some people prefer keeping their phones private - like *very* private! - and for use by themselves only...

it;s an option to avoid sales calls, can also monitor who is calling, if you dont want to talk to them.

they could be out of reach. or turned on "do not disturb" function
