Values are never old-fashioned that is a description we apply to them. So-called old-fashioned values have been around for centuries and will for centuries to come.
To answer your question regarding parents raising children with these values, I simply reply, "It depends!"
Do you want your children to be honest with you?...when they go out and party with their friends?...when they bring things into your home?
Do you want your children to have good manners around you, your home, your families?
In today's fight for survival, I think these "old-fashioned" values actually help and the fact that fewer and fewer people have them makes it easier and easier for those of us that do. Word gets around faster now than ever. This includes the word on whether someone can be trusted or does a good job - which also an "old-fashioned" value.
Here's to the children!

Well things where alot better then but sooooo many things have changed including the mixture of cultures in most countries now.Honesty n good manners r the parents responsibility n should b taught from the moment they move n never stopped being taught or reminded. They will never go out of style but as far as things like the canadian schools and how the prayer was taken away to accommodate the rest of the people from other countries and how they couldn't get there prayer heard every morning, well I guess the person who voted it to b taken out of school forgot that it's part of canada n is canada n who comes here should adapt cuz there here for a better life that they couldn't get elsewhere. They should also bring back the chasity belt or have and age limit for girls having children to young n will have no choice but to live in homes with other girls under 18 n pregnant.Maybe girls will think twice when it comes to having sex. There r so many things that we can go on for day but all we can do is make sure that u do what u think is right n best for u n family.

Good people can and do survive and thrive. It's frustrating to see liars and cheaters win, but I firmly believe they will get what they truly deserve, and that the values of honesty and good manners (which some call "old fashioned") are truly the best way to bring up children. They need to have integrity, and teaching them integrity while teaching them to stand up for themselves is a good combination. I think that honesty and good manners should not be sacrificed in the name of winning.

Honesty and good manners go a long way especially when survival issues are the case. So teaching children morals, organization and good manners is what parents should do.

Parents should certainly teach honesty and good manners, but I'm curious as to the other "old fashioned values" of which you speak. How old? Do we go back to Deuteronomy and stone to death women who have sex before marriage? Or are you talking about 1950's white middle-class values that only ever existed on the Donna Reed show?

I absolutely think they should. My parent brought me up with manners, however more and more people I interact with that are younger than me, it is obvious that they were not brought up with manners, or morals for that matter...I believe someone brought up with somewhat "old fashion values" will be much more successful at life all together. They will know how to treat people with respect and stand out (in a good way) when they are around other people.

There is a lot to be said for old fashioned values, there is nothing wrong with honesty, good manners or a good work ethic (remember a days work for a days pay?) teach them to beware of easy credit, teach them to save, demonstrate how much more satisfying something is when you sacrifice and save for it rather than instant gratification. Teach them not to envy their peers or their neighbors....definitely nothing wrong with the old fashioned ways :)

Old fashioned values like honesty and good manners are timeless and will serve your children all of their lives.
As for the rest? Your unconditional love and support will give them the self esteem they need to overcome any obstacles they encounter in the world.

I miss honesty and good manners...I think today's children are going to be really handicapped by their narcissism...
