The Thing, Hulk, Captain America, Mr. Fantastic, Human Torch, Spiderman, Invisible Woman, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Iron Man, Daredevil,Spawn,Thor,The Ghost Rider, etc.
Major Groups: Fantastic Four, The Avengers, X-Men etc.
DC: I pesonally don't like DC. Batman, Flash, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman,Robin, are in this company's comics.

I believe Spiderman is the most popular of the Marvel series. My 6 year old boys could tell you most of them. The "Thing" also comes to mind. I needed a list of Spiderman's villains for Christmas and found several by searching the web for "Marvel Super Heroes" Good Luck.

Off the top of my head....
Spiderman, X-Men (wolverine, cyclops, storm, nightcrawler, prof. X, Beast, Rogue, Gambit, Angel, Jean Grey, etc), Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider... you know this list could go on forever...
Those are specifically marvel characters, but DC also has quite a few popular ones (Superman, Batman, the Flash, etc)
There are other well know comics as well (Spawn was always cool) but if you want marvel specific, use my first few in the top paragraph.

The most popular heros are spiderman,batman,superman,the hulk, there are a lot more but these are the most popular ones i know of because i have a cousin who love heros and he tells me this all the time.
