Well, I have spent the last hour trying to find some kind of study to back up what you are doing. I found nothing that says it's good, but I also found nothing that says it's bad. However, I do have to say that if they don't advertise there products to go under your eye as a leave on moisturizer, there is probably a reason for it. I can tell you that I do know for certain the the skin around your eyes is the thinnest skin on your body. Not only is the product that you use on your eyes important but the way you touch your eyes (ie. put on creams or wash...) is extremely important. Did you know that when touching your eye area with fingers you should only use your ring finger? It is because your ring finger is the weakest finger, causes less stretching of the skin while rubbing anything on or off your eyes.
You ask how I know this? Because through Mary Kay I have devoted the last 3 years absorbing and learning everything and anything I can about teaching skin care. Of course before I could teach I had to figure out what the heck a skin care program was.
I have to ask you this, you are obviously very concerned about developing wrinkles around your eye area, but what about the rest of your face? Body for that matter? I honestly have to say that I am not sure I want to trust the advice from a few women who say something works great when it comes to my skin. I WANT scientific proof!! I want something to be tested (and not by harming animals) for at least a year before I use it. Well, I have good news for you! You can find ALL of this in Mary Kay.
Mary Kay has been the #1 Skin Care and Color Cosmetic Company for over 13 Consecutive Years!!! I can tell you that the hundreds of women I have met and facialed, the hundreds who have switched from other leading brands such as clinique, merle norman and estee lauder, to this day cannot stop touching there skin due to the soft feeling and minimized appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. NO product will eliminate wrinkles!! So if they tell you they do, it is false advertising!
Anyhow, Mary Kay has some absolutely AMAZING eye creams. They are Anti aging, and scientifically proven to work!! SO I highly suggest you log onto www.marykay.com and find a consultant near you. She will come to you (if you prefer), allow you to try all the products prior to purchasing, and also give you a 100% satisfaction guarantee!!! So you will NEVER be stuck with something you don't like or can't use. I prefer a quality, scientifically proven to work item...rather than a word of mouth product that doesn't even advertise to be used as you are using it, don't you? This is probably a lot more than you had in mind, but I am very serious when it comes to skin care! :) Email me if you have any additional questions. Hope this helps some.

This will absolutely make it worse. Not only will it make the skin under your eyes more dry it will also speed up the aging process (the opposite of what you want!) Vaseline is pure petroleum jelly. Petroleum jelly (like mineral oil) is a by-product of crude oil, in other words it is the garbage left over after gasoline and motor oil are made from crude oil. These products are occlusive, which basically means they sit on the surface of the skin and block moisture and nutrients from entering the skin and block toxins from exiting. Gross, huh? The fact is that many skin care products are made from this stuff. Why? Because it's cheap!
You need to purchase an eye cream that does not contain petroleum based products. You cannot use a face cream or hand cream around the eyes because the molecules are too large to be absorbed into the thin delicate eye area. The eye area skin is the thinnest on the body and the only area that does not have hair follicles or sweat glands.
My recommendation would be Arbonne's intelligence eye cream if you are under 30 and Arbonne's Nutrimin C RE9 Anti-aging eye cream if you are over 30. Visit my website and email me to try before you buy! http://healthynatural.myarbonne.com

i have a special trick for under-eye wrinkles. stop using your vaseline and try this:
go to your supermarket and find Smart Balance buttery spread. it's not butter, and it's not margarine - it's meant for eating, but surprisingly it works great on the face because it has a lot of the oils that are also in the best cosmetics. it's an amazing moisturizer. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE BUTTER OR MARGARINE, THAT WON'T WORK. if you can't buy this, just leave it out of the recipe.
mix some of the buttery spread with one egg white with the outer meat of an avocado (not including the skin). puree the mixture until it's creamy
spread it over your face, especially under your eye - but not too close to your eye, it shouldn't go inside. Wait for it to dry, then wash it off. use it every day, the wrinkles will be gone quite fast

Vaseline under your eyes, doesn't sound like a good idea and why would you do that anyway??? There are so many under eye gels and creams in the stores. Clinique has some really good stuff, try clinique all about eyes and then there are some other eye creams in clinique too, go to a counter and ask someone to help you there. They'll be able to tell you what's good for u.:-)

I cannot understand why all think vaseline is harmful for the area of eyes.Personally, I used to buy quite expensive cosmetics in the past but the last year I started using olive oil and vaseline under eyes-both of them nourish eyelashes and therefore if you use them systematically are capable of making eyelashes thicker & longer. I`m 32 and I can say without hesitation that vaseline-a product that I never used in the past-became my favourite eye cream(slight wrinkles have totally disappeared and lashes have become much bigger).Good luck then!

Vaseline can be used as an eye makeup remover, but it shouldn't be left on the skin as a moisturizer. I have really dry skin and (believe it or not), I use udder cream as a facial moisturizer. Yep, the stuff they use on cow's udders to keep them from cracking. Most common kinds are Udderly Smooth and Bag Balm, both of which are sold in drug stores, Wal-Mart, Target, Trader Joe's, etc. Udderly Smooth (which I use) is about $5 at Trader Joe's for a big jar. Its not only a heavy moisturizer, its got an antibacterial in it. It smells perfumy when you put it on, but the scent disappears completely within a minute so will not affect colognes that you wear.
I'm 37 and not only do I have no wrinkles, my skin doesn't break out anymore. At all. I used really, really expensive moisturizers in the past and not one of them can beat udder cream.

I am surprised at the people who said that Vaseline causes the skin to darken. My mother used it as a moisturizer for years and she had great skin. It didn't work for my dry skin, but after reading these answers, I'm going out and getting me some Preparation H to use as an eye cream!

Tyra Banks and her mother do it. According to her, her mum does not have wrinkles because she puts Vaseline on the sides of her lips and eyes every night or something like that.

Okay -this is going to sound weird but it works. I got this tip from my sister who modeled extensively. Preparation H does wonders under the eyes. It will not irritate your skin and gets rid of puffiness and helps with dark circles. Very moisturizing. Try the original cream. It's also a nice, inexpensive option. Good luck...
