Babies R Us sells clothes in preemie sizes, smaller than newborn. If you don't have one close to your house, you can shop online for them at babiesrus.com.
Good Luck.

You should wash all of your baby's clothing, towels, bibs, etc. before they come into contact with your baby, yes. You can use something like "Dreft," which is especially for babies; if you don't use that then just be sure to use something that doesn't have perfumes or dyes.
As others have said, there are clothes made for preemies. The question I would have is: how big are the "newborn" clothes on your baby right now? How much does he weigh?
My babies were 8 weeks premature and we bought preemie clothes for them, but they weighed about 3 1/2 pounds each at birth, so there was no way newborn clothing would fit them. Even so, they weren't in the preemie clothing for all that long, when all is said and done. If it's cold where you are then you want to make sure your baby isn't swimming in his clothes, to be sure, but get only as much as you need to -- he will be big enough for newborn clothing soon! Also, ask around about different brands -- some brands run large, some small. (For example, Carters stuff runs really big...I think "LittleMe" runs pretty small, but to be honest I don't remember).
Most preemie clothing is made to fit babies up to 7 pounds, so use that number as a guide to consider whether it's worth it/how long he'll be wearing them. If you have a BRU nearby, they have preemie clothing and it's not expensive.
Congratulations on your baby!

More and more stores are offering preemie clothing for babies that are 5-7lbs. My daughter weighed just over 5lbs at birth and spent most of her time in side-snap shirts, xsm onsies and a few preemie outfits I was able to find. And she didn't even wear newborn sizes until she was nearly 3 months old.
I did find, recently, some set of preemie clothes at Target and a couple at Wal-Mart. Check the Target website and see what you can find.
Old Navy also has some infant clothing that is sized "up to 7lbs". I had some of those and I ordered them online. The arrived quickly and I was able to take back the ones that didn't work at our local store.
I washed everything before letting my kids wear it only because I had no idea how many people had their hands on them before I bought them.

My daughter was small also at birth. We got all of her clothes at Walmart (because its cheap) They have preemie clothes there. They were too big for her at first but after a few weeks they fit her perfectly.
Yeah you should wash the clothes. Think of how many people touched them at the store.

How tiny is he being 38 weeks. Yes, wash the cloths in Dreft or All Free before he wears them.
Newborn clothes should be fine for him, just roll the sleeves and legs up. They grow soooooooooooo quickly you will not believe it.

Many stores such as wal-mart and target sell clothes for preemie, that will work for you. Yes, you do need to wash all baby clothes before wearing. You can use All for Baby, Dreft or Ivory Snow. Their skin is too sensitive to wear clothes without being washed first.

Yes, you need to wash them before he wears them. Try Dreft or Ivory Snow.
Also, don't bother spending money on tiny clothes. Use the Newborn stuff like sleepers and onesies. He will out grow these things quicker than you can blink!

You want to wash them before they wear them. A lot of people buy/use Dreft or a baby washing powder, but I didn't do that with either of mine; I just used regular Tide.
They grow really, really fast, especially in the first year, so I wouldn't go out of my way to get premie clothes, unless you have a special occasion where you really want him to look well-dressed.

Maybe try H&M if you are in Europe, they have really small clothes sometimes. Or in Asia and the pacific nations there are specific sizes for extra small babies. Try on Ebay as well, or online through mothers shop. Yes, wash them before putting them on him, in a special delicate wash solution made for babies, mostly fragrance free (to avoid allergic reactions etc) Good luck and congratulations on the safe arrival of your baby!!!! :-)

yes wash them first and the preemie clothes should fit but if not remember you can get cute sleepers and onesis instead of putting outfits on him.
I know they have preemie clothes at walmart but there is not much of a selection i don't think. And he should grow into regular newborn clothes real soon.
