Actually it's more of a question as to why they are pathogenic. 37 celsius is very close to body temperature and since that is their optimal temperature they thrive on warm bodies which makes them pathogens.
As with most questions of why it is a matter of survival and adaptation for food sources.

that's akin to asking why humans 'like' living at temperatures found in temperate places on earth, not say, mars with its freezing cold or venus with it's molten heat.
Life adapts to survive in the environment it lives. If an organism lives in a human then its ideal temperature is that of a human. That isn't just true of the pathogenic microbes but all the microbes that live in you. There are more bacterial cells in your body than there are human cells.

btpage pretty much hit it right on. The organisms live at body temp -- 37 degrees C. and can thrive in the human body.

It's also that enzymes, which run the chemical reactions of the cells, like warm temperatures to make them fast, but if it's too warm like 38+ then they stop working as they lose their shape and denature
