Unfortunately I may be getting fired for attendance. Would I be able to collect unemployment compensation?

You can not claim unemployment in Michigan unless you were laid off, or fired for a reason that was beyond your control. Unfortunately attendance is in your control. Your company will fight it because they have a justified reason to fire you.

If you are going to be fired, and you go to work, the company will have a hard time denying your unemployment claim. If you are told that if you do not come to work you will be fired, if you don't go to work, you loose unemployment. This is considered a willful act, the same as quiting a job.

If this is after the fact, get another job right away. If nothing has happened yet, make sure you go to work. AND LOOK FOR A NEW JOB, you don't like the one you have so get one that is better.

You can not get unemployement benefits if you get fired for attendance and collect benefits for 8 weeks, then the state will help/

Nope! Your employer plays apart in the decision of you getting unemployment and the money you get comes from there account with the state. Now, If they do not want to pay you for not coming to work you damn sure are not gonna get paid for setting at home. You get unemployment if your employer has to let you go and at no fault of yours. Prime example would be due to a lack of work.

Unemployment is not paid when you're fired for cause. Failure to show is would be considered for cause.

If I were you I'd talk to my boss, apologize for your absences and assure him/her that it won't happen again. You need to initiate the conversation and then you need to follow through.

Not sure about Michigan but if you are dismissed rather than laid off generally unemployment will not be an option.

About the only way you can swing it is if your absences fall under FMLA. So if you were missing work (I think it's up to 12 weeks a calander year) due to personal or family illnesses you can try to claim wrongful termination.

No. Other things that do not pay are insubordination, alcohol and drugs, and willful neglect.

you can appeal but must have compelling evidence of why you were absent or tardy.
