i know this is a stupid question, but i'm going to a job interview on march 5, for a clothing store, and i'm positive that 2 questions they'll ask me are 1) Why do you want to work for our company? and 2) what makes you a good candidate?

i really need some advice on how to answer these, bcuz i've never had a job before in my life (i'm 17) and i'm already freakin out. i know for a fact that if i answer those questions the way i really want to (which is "honestly, i'm trying to transfer from a community college to a university next year and i just need any job to help me pay for it") they'll most certainly show me the door. so what can i do to sell myself to these people???? the store, by the way, is urban outfitters, so if anyone's ever worked there let me know what they look for!!!

Try to imagine who you would hire if you owned the company. You'd be looking for someone who is well dressed, good with people and in this case has a knowledge of fashion.

So your a good candidate because you love to help people find clothes that they love and that fit them properly. That you'll go the extra yard to help them find the right accessories.

You want to work for the company because it will give you the chance to work with fashions and learn more about what people like. That the company will give you the opportunity to advance in the areas of sales and eventually purchases.

Good Luck!

Check out the website or the shop window (or both). Know the market that you are selling to and what your customers will want.

If you've never worked before talk about other instances where you've had people experience, worked in a team and what you like to do for hobbies (any of these can be adapted - eg if you like playing sports you can deal with teams but if you prefer reading then you are able to pay attention to detail).

Don't mention to them that you're only looking to stay for a year, but downplay your career aspirations as otherwise they might expect you to go for management ;)

What emplyers are looking for is personality, enthusiasm for the job and common sense. If you come across enthusiastic and motivated as well as self-competetent and intelligent, you will make a good impression. They know with his job that you are not looking for a lifetime career.

Tell them that you like the company's products (if that's true) and you're looking for a good and interesting place to work while you attend school. What makes you a good candidate is your willingness to work hard and be a good representative for their company.

The best answer is to market your strengths as well as your passion in clothing. I know how it is when it's a place that I shop, so some research would help too. And, most of all, PRACTICE, so you can send the jitters away.
