1) At every chance buy utilities. They provide a modest, (if you only have a couple,) yet constant income and there good for a quick cash mortage, especially if you want to set up houses and motels as early as possible.
2) Own the properties on each of the 4 corners.
3) Find the balance between buy everything and leave some disposable cash.
4) Never do favours and expect them to be returned. Be ruthless !
5) Own either Park Lane or Mayfair. Even if you don't develop them - others want them and their re-sale price can allow some instant development of other property.
6) Opting to stay in jail is negative gearing
7) On the first lap of the board - buy everything you land on.

I play quite competitive monopoly. The idea of the game is to anticipate!

Here is one little secret i'll share with you: On the lookout for trades your opponents can make and give them a set without you! Make sure you have all the "stoppers" - which is one piece of proprety that keeps your opponents from making the deal.

So anticipate potential trades before everybody else, and it comes with practice. If you see a potential trade, then u do whatever you can to extract these properties from your opponent before they see it. Last time i gave away my dark purples for one light blue, and the guy built hotels right away!!! I did that because he could use the blue to strike a trade for the Orange if the last orange is purchased by a certain player. I ended up winning the game.

Make sure you have trading mediums. Properties are generally better than cash, but there are times when cash becomes powerful.

Know your dice odds and build housing accordingly! there is 1/6 of getting a 7. there is 1/32 chance of getting 2 or 12, factor those in when u build.

Pink, orange and red are your best bet, but not always.

Practice and anticipate. good luck!

Buy all the cheap places( the dark purple and light blue areas) and build hotels on them

Get electric company and water works because they can add up to $120 every time someone lands on it and rolls a high number from 8-12 on the dice, there is a chance card for electric company too so its even better

Try to own Park Place or Boardwalk and at least one of every color property because then its hard for your dad to win without any possible monopolies

Avoid mortgaging because it will be hard for you to earn the money you just got from the bank plus 10% interest

Get at least 2 railroads and the max 3 instead of four because that is almost impossible

hope this helps

Buy all 4 railways and the Electric Company and the Water works. Buy properties on either side of a corner.People always seem to land on them. Try to stop someone from gaining a monopoly by buying at least one colour in the series that they are after. Don't give up! Your Dad is getting old and your brain is still developing. You'll catch him in the end.

try not to trade property be a hold out because some of the game is built on luck you may think your getting a good deal that will break your opponent but all it takes to loose is landing on his property while he avoids yours. So don't give any and buy what you can afford. I have lost games because other people made some silly trades with the strongest competition in turn giving me no chance.

I've never lost with this strategy.

Optionals, highly reccomended:

• Dark Purple Spaces: If your opponent passes Go, and lands on this, you can gain their Go bonus, plus more if you have hotels.
• Violet Spaces: If your opponent goes to jail, and they leave, they will usually land on this property.
• 4 Railroads: Good to secure left side of the board, very nice payout when you have all four.
• Utilities (Optional): Used to secure left and top half of the board.
• ONE of the Blue properties and ONE of the Green properties: This will stop your opponent to gain houses and the most powerful sets.

THE BIG, BIG, Combo

3 Orange + 3 Red + 3 Yellow

This is the ultimate combo to win with. I have never lost with this combo. Your opponent will land on ATLEAST one of these every trip around the board, and it will do some serious money damage on him. Adding the utilities and railroads on secure these more. If you take off one of the blues and greens, they're left with the Sky Blue properties if you also stole the Dark Purples. You win in a matter of a couple turns.

1. Buy everything you land on, remember the "real" purchase price is only half since you can always mortgage it.

2. When you have a choice, the best properties to get are the oranges, reds, and boardwalk/park place. If you have the greens you'll need to do everything in your power to keep others from getting monopolies, because you'll need to build up a lot of cash to use them.

3. Strive to get 3 houses on everything, rents go up dramatically.

4. Remember that there can be "housing shortages". You might not want to automatically buy hotels when you can for this reason.

5. Be creative when dealing. You can offer to forego rent, split income received from rentals.

6. Always look like YOU are the one who is behind. You want your opponents to try to knock each other out while you clean up. Often you can talk somebody into paying your rent!

Scare him by doing what most people said...buying everything you land on. Place your houses strategically so he has a chance of landing on them as they are placed....And yes, "scare" him, put a lot of pressure by investing in houses early and beleive it or not, he will start to get unlucky....it works that way. Luck favors the brave. In the long term it works out. You would not beleive the probabilities or odds against when fear is involved....

The best way that I can think of is be the first to get all four railroads and Broadwalk and Park Place. These earn the player the most money due to the fact that they have the highest in rent or other fees. If you put hotels on them your sure to win. Good Luck.
