Slug pellets work great. However, if you want a non-chemical solution the put out containers (such as old jam jars or tin cans) half filled with beer or similar liquid, place these down in the soil so that the rim is just above soil level. The slugs and snails will crawl in after the sweet beer and drown.

I place boards around in the bed. In the early morning I go out flip the boards over and scrape the slugs into a bucket. Keep doing this. The slug population should subside. What you do with your slugs from the bucket is up to you. Just don't dispose them back into your bed. Good Luck

Salt but that is really cruel. What my dad does is crush eggshells really tiny and sprinkle them around the roots of plants the slugs like, up to about 3cm wide. Then when the slug gets near the plant it feels the egg shells on its underbelly and does NOT like it one little bit! It then goes of to find food elsewhere! =) Very effective and nicely humane! =)

Sink margarine tubs into the soil and put beer in, the slugs fall in and drown. What a way to go!

Drown 'em in beer! Really. Just put shallow dishes of beer around the plants where slugs congregate. They'll be attracted to the beer and drown in it.

My grandad used to bury a yogurt pot in the soil and fill it with bitter. The slugs like the taste of the beer but drown in the pot. That way they die happy.

beer traps - get some cheap supermarket beer, put in a pot in the ground and wait for the slugs to drop in.

grit round the plants you want to protect is a good deterrent as well
