My friend has been banned in WOW for "gold farming". He did nothing wrong but added what he thought was a new ui but instead wound up being a program that steals his password. He logged in to find his password didn't work (they had changed it) and so he had his password reset. When he logged in he found himself 2 levels higher and about 20 gold richer, with lots of items to sell in his backpacks. The next day he tried logging in to find that he was permanently banned for gold farming. He sent in an appeal and they turned it down.

My question is...has anyone been banned for this before, who has been able to get the ban overturned? How did you do it?

Hmm, sounds like some people are so egotistical that they think my question is a soapbox for their diatribe against WoW or games in general. I thank those who have offered suggestions and explanations and actually answered the question. To those who use this question to make fun of someone who has had their hobby taken away, I wish for your favorite pasttime to be taken from you, and that others would mock you in your time of hurt and bitterness. Posting insults about a game...and I suppose you can call that "a life" huh?

Sorry to hear your friend lost his account, but truthfully, it sounds like poetic justice to me.

Someone stole your buddy's account with a key logger and probably set up the account with a bot and got caught lol.

Best thing for your friend to do is start all over again with a new account and password. Not the best news but the safest.

Don't mind these flamers. The only thing they are accomplishing is showing the world how idiotic they really are :)

Cheers

Many people get banned for this. Your friend has been keylogged, and the keylogger used a third-party program to exploit the user-term agreements of WoW. Your friend can do one of two things:

• Create a new account. Get over it. Dugi the great warrior of pre-BC got keylogged, and banned via the keylogger. Now he is Wugi, and is probably level 70 by now.
• Send an e-mail to public service. They can try to overturn this, but it happens rarely. He's better off starting over.

That totally sucks...I had a friend that was using a third party interface get banned for something really similar, and he ended up having to get a whole new account.

As for all the peopel that mock our hobbies...I just ignore them...they obviouisly have no lives themselves, so game on!!

once you are banned its really hard to get it over turned

when you download other programs that go along with WOW but are not released by Blizzard you are actually breaking the terms of agreement you said yes to. so if you download a program and is destroys your account they tend not to rule in your favor

It can happen, you have to be careful what you download...if you download a program that allows someone to do this, then it's all on you and there's nothing Blizzard can do about it. I would say call Blizzard and explain you situation...create a new character.

Thats insanely awesome that that happened. You know, more peoples lives have been lost to that game. More breakups and failed marriages and people neglect their kids to play that game. Maybe he learned a lesson and maybe its a sign for him not to ruin his own life.
