…she gave her reason for building a school in South Africa instead of the United States?
It was something about them being unappreciative and undeserving.
Also, since it seems to have been a blanket statement, was she referring to Black, Caucasian or all ethnicities?
And since she has the arrogance to know who is deserving and who is not, does she think she is deserving of the millions that she is fortunate to have as opposed to SOOO many underpaid health professionals, law enforcement personnel, military personnel, teachers, etc?

It never ceases to amaze me how without understanding or even answering the question, individuals like some of you have SOOOO MUCH negative in YOUR MIND AND HEART that you project it towards individuals such as me.
I can only pity you and pray for you.
And btw, I DON’T WATCH HER SHOW.
LOL!!!

I think her response was the children in the US were unappreciative because so much as been given to them that they think it's expected. There are some areas in the US that could have greatly benefited from her gift however and it would have been greatly appreciated.

I don't think those were her exact words unappreciative and undeserving. What I remember her saying was that American Children - who receive an education because it is the law, don't always appreciate what it would be like not to be given that opportunit. I agree with her. When it is something that you just expect, if you have always had it, you do tend to take things for granted and don't strive as hard to learn. I do not think it was a racist remark - "American Children" are all colors and ethnicities. You can call it arrogance to know who is deserving and who is not, but yes, Oprah is a well educated woman, what good would it have done here to open a school for the poor, when in our country, you may be poor, but you still get an education. Does she think she is deserving of her millions, I hope she feels she is, she has worked her butt off for it, and she shares her wealth consistently and tries to make life better for a lot of other people. It sounds like you might have a case of sour grapes, envy, jealousy and maybe even some racism yourself.
I am responding to your additional comments. It was you who posed the question correct? Did the last paragraph state that Oprah was arrogant? Did you not make it sound like soooo many underpaid etc. were looked down on by Oprah? I still stick with my original assessment, sour grapes, envy, jealousy, and racism. If those shoes fit you, and I think they do - wear em'

I think she gave the reason being that inner-city children in this country are unappreciative...that view can be interpreted as meaning American children would not make full use of the opportunities because our kids feel entitled to everything without deserving or earning it, they are spoiled-rotten and lazy and would rather cheat, rob and kill than actually WORK for the wonderful rewards that the children in her schoolwill be deserving when they complete the school programs.
The "label" of being inner-city seems to be a badge worn by many as sign that we OWE THEM and the recurring generational belief is that if you hold-out your hands the government should fill it with whatever you want.....we in the inner city have been treated badly so we deserve to be able to get everything and do no work to deserve it. What happens when 3/4 of the kids born in this country are born with their hands held out for freebies and people have already learned to have illegitimate kids who will just bring them more money even as the grandparents care for the kids. [thanks for getting me started....] The other side of this is that educators are way underpaid to put up with the rude behavior and disinterest that students bring to class. Teachers-policemen-social workers---should make triple what they get now. How many millions does one entertainer need anyway?

I don't watch her show on a regular basis so I don't know why she didn't contribute here in America. However, I did decide that it is her money to do with as she chooses. She is fortunate to have become so wealthy and respected based upon her good personality. As to her pay, I feel the same way about celebrities and athletes. We show them more respect than we do those professions you mentioned...also scientists who discover the cure for diseases or spend their lives searching for the cure. It is the idea of supply and demand. We seem to place our highest value on entertainment.

I think that it was a good thing to help those kids even if they are not in United States they are still human beings and should have a right to free education just like the poor people here

WOW! You're upset! I don't know what she said, but I do respect that she didn't go and build a school in her hometown or inher new neighborhood! She went to her roots, one of the most neglected places in the world and is trying to add a little sunshine on their lives. GOD bless Oprah, Jay Z, Madonna, and all the other celebrities who invest their riches in the less fortunate!

She has given alot more to people than just building a school, what about building homes for people who were homeless here in the US and giving all of those brand new cars to everyone in her studio, and all of those free gifts at her shows, and giving away weddings to people. She helps many!

I know I should not be, but I am literally fed up with her.
Her giving gifts to her audiences may come off as wonderful and maybe she is sincere but it is also good for ratings. As well as building that school and other contributions she makes but only God really knows her heart.
