You need Internet access at your US Location.
You also need to lookup the SMTP Outgoing server is to send an email through that ISP.
Alternatively, if you have webmail, then it will work fine with any Internet Access or if the Email Provider you use provides their own SMTP to use.
Yahoo With Voice will work as long as you have a broadband Internet connection at your location.

A wireless USB is a good idea - you can go into Starbucks and use their Internet connection.
A firewall is a must - Zonealarm is free and very good - http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp
As for your e-mails... You need to grab Thunderbird (it's better than Outlook anyways) and a couple Thunderbird add-ons - Webmail and Webmail: Yahoo.
I recommend setting the programs up at home to minimize issues.
