Wait until you have a child that can open doors. This question became moot in our house: now both my husband and I put the seat AND lid down, and lock the door. We have a pick to open it from the outside, but JUST IN CASE, the lid and seat are down to make it less likely that she'll fall in and drown.
By the way, I've heard of cases where people have left either the seat OR lid up, and had a pet fall in and turn blue from the bowl-cleaning water. *giggle*
Now....if only my daughter being around could get my hubby to remember to change the toilet paper roll.......*sigh* :)

eeew! who wants to see the (usually dirty, icky) underside of the toilet seat! Gross!
PS, personally, the reason I get upset when hubby leaves up the seat--which thank god is rarely--is because in the middle of the night it's really rude when you go to sit down, and you're all sleepy & you butt lands on the cold porcelain & you have that sinking feeling for just a fraction of a second that you've missed the pot--he thinks it's hilarious when I give a little shreik! lol

We didn't lift it up, so why should we be required to put it back down?
I didn't wear your socks, so why should I have to throw them in the hamper ?
I didn't drink the last of the milk and put the empty carton back in the fridge, so why should I have to remove it ?
Does your wife cook dinner for you when she's not hungry ?
Does she wash your jocks , dry them and then fold them and put them back in the drawer?
Who mops the floor, when you've tracked in mud on your dirty boots?
It's just common courtesy to put the seat down.... and if you love her, why wouldn't you want to do something so simple for her ?

not for me because when i go to the bath room i just flip it back down. my husband says the same thing you do. i would perfer for him to put it down just so our one year old does not play in the toilet. but hey there are more things to get angry about in this world then a toilet seat.
