And vice-versa, I don't understand how the Slamecksan or "Low heels" political group is reminiscent of the Whigs - could someone plz explain?

This is actually pretty tough stuff, because first you have to have a very strong background in the history of England during that time period.

Essentially there was a top group and an underdog group.. etc
