Well, it wouldn't be just as simple as buying the correct leads to connect to the lighter.

The power coming out of the lighter is DC. The power your laptop adapter requires is AC. You would need to get a power converter to plug into your cigarette lighter.

That is, unless you are working on your electrical engineering degree, then you could build your own power adapter for the laptop that runs on DC power.

You'll need to buy an inverter with a normal socket on it. This will up the voltage from the socket and allow you to power your laptop through its normal adaptor.

DC to AC power inverters are quite cheap, and you should be able to get them either in electrical shops, or by shopping for them online.

might be tricky, plenty of leads plug into the cigarette lighter, but the end into your laptop, well they vary from model. also wouldnt it be illegal as they are clamping down on mobile phone users in cars surley the same would apply

OMG! Someone on the news the other night was using a laptop as he was driving his car. He went over the center line in the road, hit a semi and killed him.. Be careful!!

You can buy an i-Tip car adapter from lots of stores. I find lots of them at Radio-Shack. Make sure you bring your labtop or labtop power cord there, because there are Hundreds of tips for an i-Tip converter.

You can by a power inverter that changes 12vdc to 115vac
and plug your powercord into that. They are for small appliances
like that.

You need to get a power INVERTER not a CONVERTER. you can pick them up at best buy circuit city walmart ect.
