My son was born during horrific weather at the beginning of Feb. this year. I kept him in the first week but we have been out several times since then, probaly from when he was 8-10 days old. Babies only need to wear one layer more than we wear. Do not let them get too warm by over bundling.

You can take the baby out straight away as long as he/she is appropriately dressed. Years ago, midwives advised not to go out for ten days after the birth but that was for the Mum's benefit rather than the baby's.
At the school where my children are, there's an unofficial 'competition' about who can go over to collect their kids with the newest addition to the family! At the moment, one mum gave birth to her baby girl on the Monday and next morning, she took it in the pram over the school!!! (she's the record holder at the moment ha!) I'm expecting someone to give birth at the school gates so they can be the winner soon!
I took my last baby out 5 days after the birth, I was feeling a bit battered though!

I have always heard that once they recieve their shots (around 1 month I think) they can go anywhere!

My husband is a scientist, and works with infectious diseases...he says that exposing a baby to different environments its actually a GOOD thing...it's good to take your baby out and about, be around dog hair, don't sanatize and clean everything that your baby may come in contact with 20 times...you need to be protective, but be reasonable. He says that babies need to be exposed in order to build up antibodies and resistance! If your baby is really never exposed to anything then it's more likely the baby will have allergies or will be unable to effectively fight off germs etc. I know as a mother, it's normal to worry about everything that's out there and all the germs, but it's actually a good thing to go ahead and get the baby out into the world (especially after she/he has received the appropriate shots and vaccinations)!

I had my baby on July 5, got out of the hospital on july 7 and mommy, daddy & baby went on their first walk in the park on july 8. My point is don't lock yourself away in your house. Just make sure your baby is bundled well and don't take the baby to really crowded places right now because so many colds and flus this time of year. Congrats and good luck!

Go out now.
My midwife who visited me at home one week after my daughter's birth said that I could take her out when I wanted.

Keep an eye on her temperature though when going in and out of shops because she hasn't got a reliable thermostat yet.

To answer your question though, I waited one and a half weeks, and remember telling people that she was two weeks old in mom/baby groups, so I was definately out and about two weeks after birth.

You can take the baby out immediately as long as he/she is appropriately dressed.

Use your discretion of course if the temperatures are sub-zero.

when i had my first baby she was also born in january. other than taking her to doctor appointments and to grandma and grandpa's house we really didn't take her anywhere else until end of March when the weather started to get warmer.
