To renew any prescription, just call your doctor's office.

Take a look on your prescription bottle. It will clearly say either "Refills: 8 (or whatever) or "Not Refillable". Unless your doctor has specifically asked to see you again at the end of your present prescription supply, you wouldn't necessary have to see him personally to get a refill authorized. You can yourself, or have your pharmacy call the doctor's office and request that authorization.. It would be rather unusual for your doctor not to have suggested to you a time to visit him (or her) to see how you are doing on this drug, and then make a decision whether the dosage is right, or needs adjusting.
In any case, if you have any problems with the way you feel on sertraline, or if you think it isn't doing the job, call and report it to the doctor. Doctor/Patient communication is vital, or you aren't going to get your best results with the treatment.

Are there any refills showing on the prescription bottle? Many times a doctor will want to see a patient once the prescription has been used & depending on the condition. If there are no refills showing on the bottle, then you will need to call your doctor for a refill. He may want you to come in so he can ask you some questions & determine if a refill is warranted.

If your doctor is any good then you will have to go and see him to get a repeat, this is so the doctor can make a note of how you're feeling whether you would benefit from any other form of treatment etc. If they're just giving you repeet presriptions without bothering to see you then this suggests that they don't care for your wellbeing very much. With a condition like depression it's not like a cold it won't just go away without any treatment. My partner is also on sertraline and his doctor sees him every couple of weeks to see how he is.

if its the first time and you are on titration( increasing your medication over time ) then yes to monitor you. Im a mental health nurse and a lot of medications in that area have side effects. doesn't mean you will have them but you are better seeing the gp. I im also on medication for my epilepsy and i have to see my gp every so often to see how things are. Its just ritual. After you have been on it for awhile then it should not be should a problem but if you have just started then yes. The saying better safe than sorry is true. Hope this has helped and hope things improve

Call your GP, the receptionist will talk to your doctor and give you a call back to let you know that you can go and collect the prescription.

YOUR ARE USUALLY ON DEPRESSANTS FOR SOME TIME ,IF YOU WERE PUT ON A REPEAT PRESCRIPTION, RING YOUR DOCTOR' S SURGERY AND ASK TO BE PUT THROUGH TO THE' REPEAT PRESCRIPTONS ' AND ORDER YOUR PRESCRIPTION AND THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL YO U ,YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO SEE THE DOCTOR FOR EVERY PRESCRIPTION UNLESS HE/SHE WANT TO SEE HOW YOUR DOING .IT IS KEPT ON COMPUTER , BUT YOU DO HAVE TO RING THE SURGERY OR THE CHEMIST WHERE YOU GOT YOUR FIRST TABLETS THEY WILL BE ABLE TO TELL YOU IF YOUR ON REPEATS OR NOT . THE AMOUNT OF PREPEATS IS STRICTLY OBSERVED BY THE SURGERY.,EVEN WHEN YOU RING IN.
