I am a somehow out-going person, and I don't have an issue with approaching strangers and making them my friends, but I have a problem with keeping friends... I have so many people in my life that I don't talk to anymore, is there something wrong with me? I wonder! How do I keep friends?!

You have to make an effort when trying to keep friends. Get in touch, go out for coffee. Be honest, and above all be yourself. From my point of view, people that are fake just don't cut it.
And if they are true friends, they should do some of the initiating when it comes to keeping in contact. Good luck.

You say you have no problem approaching strangers and being friendly: good for you. However, consider that you may just get their attention because you're doing a lot of polite talking which is nice unless your polite talking is about the personal lives of the other people you know.
Pick three to five people you really, really enjoy hanging out with and focus on building a reputation of being a good listener, a supportive cheerleader (not the ridiculous High School kind, though ^_^), and a good secret-keeper (do what you can not to keep dangerous secrets though). This is what has kept me close to the two girls I've known since elementary school: we're twenty and I've been friends with them for 13 and 14 years!

Dont betray them and hang out with them maybe every weekend or when you have time. And when you dont give them a call once in a while to keep in touch.

Maybe, if you have so many friends, try to organise a party somewhere and invite all of your friends. I'm not totally sure...

Don't talk behind their backs and stab them. Call them when they pop into you mind. Send an ecard on one of the holidays. Talk to them.

i have this same problem. just keep track of the people you really enjoy being around.
