I bought a brand new computer 1 month ago.Everything has been fine until today. When I turn the computer on half of my desktop icons are gone.I heard awhile ago that a virus can do that so I ran my Norton and it shows no viruses. Also I go to the START button then to ALL PROGRAMS and some of the programs are still in there but when I try to access them nothing happens.Any ideas onto what is happening and how to fix it? I have a Dell.No one has had access to this computer except me in the last 3 days so I know no one deleted anything and the Recycle Bin is empty.

Hard to say.... Run adaware (from Lavasoftusa.com) and spybot (from safer-networking.net, iirc).

Just for giggles, do a restore to a few days before this all started (start->all programs->accessories->system tools->system restore). That may solve the problem.

Are you logged into your machine with administrative rights? Got to control panel and user profiles and check this. I may be logging you on automatically as guest
