SATA has the flair for swifter information pass yet that would not advise that each and every person cutting-edge SATA drives are swifter than EIDE . An obvious exception being the wonderful Western digital Raptor drives (SATA) SATA information cables are additionally much less good connections and extra probably to alter into loose or disconnected whilst disturbed than the coolest previous ribbon connectors. some (not all) mainboards now help 'warm-Plug' SATA meaning instruments may well be related/disconnected whilst powered up. The inherent undertaking with SATA is the reality that the stress's inner bandwidths are lots slower than exterior controller applications (on the 2d a minimum of) so the stress would not totally hire the enhanced bandwith presented by potential of SATA much less so SATA-2. interior the actual international, there is not any actual major velocity distinction between the two standards yet, even however that's a coming up technologies so the gulf will widen between SATA & IDE.

ATA = PATA. Not the same, but you can get a converter from one to the other for about $40. You're better off buying the right type of drive. The cables are WAY different. 80 pin + power connector for PATA (aka EIDE) and one or two small thin cables for SATA.
