I've been doing a lot of research on natural gender selection. So I'm pretty learned on all the information that is out there. And I believe that there are things that can be done to help get the sex of baby you want. But how come whenever any one on here asks a question about it, everyone automatically shoots them down and says...it's not possible, only the guy determines the sex, etc. Have these people done their own research to know for sure they are right? Or are they just repeating things they've heard and being closed minded?

Sort of selecting the individual sperm that fertalizes the egg, theres really no way to know for sure that you will get the sex you selected.
You can do a lot to increase your chances of one or the other, but in the end, its just one big steeple chase between the sperm cells.
Research has a lot to say about it, but nothing conclusive, and nothing to refute the scientific.
Personally, I prayed for a son, I called him my son before he was even made, and now here he is.

I think the title "natural gender selection" is misleading and that affects people's reactions to it. Are there things that research SUGGESTS will increase chances of concieving a certain gender? Yes. Is it 100%, nope. You can't "select" the sex of your baby through natural means, you can only encourage. I think people see the name and just say "nope, not possible," discounting the possilbe ways to sway nature one way or another. When it comes down to it, its the first spermie there that wins. Is mommy's body more receptive to a particular one? Does one swim faster or live longer? All of these are questions that are still being posed. No one has a definate answer, despite what you may read. Otherwise, we'd all be walking around with the perfect nuclear family, instead of families with 4 girls 1 boy or 3 boys no girls (not that there is anything wrong with that at all!). I think its best to leave it up to nature, but that is just a personal opinion.

First of all, most "people" are happy to have a healthy baby, and the gender of the child is not really a concern. I don't mean to offend, but if you are dead set on a certain sex and dont already have three of the other, then maybe you should re-examine why you want a child.
Second, "people" don't do research. All they know is have sex and make a baby. Its only the couples who are desperate for children and smart enough to research fertility that know female sperm are hardier, but slower than male. You want a boy, have sex the day you ovulate. You can a girl, do it the day before.
Don't even bother talking about it. "People" aren't interested in learning, and if they are, they'll look it up themselves.
Sorry to sound so cynical!

I believe there are things you can do to increase your chances, but the male sperm does carry the x or y chromosome needed to determine gender. I have heard that female sperm live longer in the body and if you have sex 2 days before ovulation, you have a better chance of having a girl. I don't mean to shoot down your research but I don't think there's any way to be 100% accurate in determining gender.

People say that the male determines the sex of the baby mainly because that is the fact they are fed in biology class, fed by parents, doctors, etc. The only way anyone is going to learn anything different is to hear it from credible sources...so where did you learn about natural gender selection from? I sure would like to know more.

Well, of course there are things that can help your chances of a boy or girl, but nothing that will ensure you the sex that you choose.
BTW, I've also read a bit about choosing the sex, but I'm in no way an expert on the subject.
And yes, some people are closed minded, but some are just misinformed.

I was reading an article on it not that long ago. With genetics, females have two X chromosomes, while males have a Y & a X. The guy has two types of sperm - one's that contain the Y chromosone, and one's that contain the X chromosone.
When a sperm fertilises an egg - it determines the sex of the baby, if the sperm contained the X chromosone, you'll have a girl, if it contained the Y, it'll be a boy.

I am sure that it is "possible" but its not something that is done yet. Just about everything under the sun in possible in theory, doesn't mean it will actually work.
Its not a matter of people being close minded, biologically the father determines the sex of the baby, that is hard core fact.

I think they're confused. The women have the "XX" chromosome and the Men have the "XY", so the chromosome determines the baby's sex.
You can do a lot of things to have the conditions to increase your probabilities for one or another sex. but, in the end, chromosomes ave the last word!

I think people are looking for definites, not "things that can be done to HELP get the sex..." The fact is that you can't choose, you can only do certain things to try to get the sex you want. I don't really think it's about being closed minded.
