I've got loads of viruses, basically loads of crap on my other discdrive which i want to use as its loads of memory but it's real slow & things keep popping up on the screen when i fit it.
CAN I erase everything on it & start again keeping the memory?
how do I go about it??
it's a COMPAQ deskpro.

You may want to check Ultimate Boot CD project site.

The CD could help make you an expert.

If you have your basic OS on this 'disk drive' then you may need to put a 'new' OS (operating system) on another disk drive first ... then simply go 'into' the 'my computer' and 'open' that disk drive and 'reformat' it ... 'right click' when you have your cursor pointed at that disk drive on some computers, or it's on the 'menu' to the left side if you're on others. That will 'clear out' that disk drive and leave it 'blank' and then you can 'store' new stuff on it by simply 'directing' it to that drive by it's 'letter name' when you are 'filing.'

if its really full of nasty things i wouldnt be hooking it up with a "clean drive" as virus's can be contagious ;)
but i would go to drive mfg site and download there drive utilites, example would be maxtor has maxblast.
anyway i'd wipe the drive, (writre zero's to drive). this way you'll have a clean drive and then you could reformat / partiton your nice shiny CLEAN drive.
