I've never had trouble with it and I've been playing for more than 5 years. Be sure to follow all the golden rules (never give out personal information and the like) and you should be fine.
I have seen some offensive outside banner ads, but TNT (The Neopets Team) has an e-mail especially for reporting ads that are not appropriate for Neo.
All in all? Yes, Neopets is a good, safe, fun site.

Ummm...it's partly safe. there have been some offensive content i've seen on the site. some people are just stupid to put bad content on there homepage. but if you catch someone doin sometin bad, you can report them. also some people discover ways to dodge the server detection thing. but other than that it's a good site. check out my user name : jek656

it is fun it is kinda like runescape but more awesome but my dad thought it was like demon creatures so i cant play it anymore
