Iran is apparently lending aid to insurgents in Iraq, how do we know this and if so why?

We know this beause our military is finding ied's with serial numbers on certain parts that designate an Iranian origin.
Why are they lending aid?
Because Iran hates us.

I am no fan of Iran, but if I had the US on both sides of my country, 'occupying ' my neighbors militarily, and they explicitly put me in their site aka the axis of evil, I think I would .....
