A body lift and transmission tunnel work will be two issues.Fuel supply will also be an issue so upgrade. If you get a c6 trannsmission and mount a shifter up through the floor. It will be a lot easier. You will need a bigger radiator and most likely the rear end will need to be replaced with something a bit stronger. Chevy to Ford engine is not a very common(especially with the 400M) swap. You will most likely have to fabricate your own mounts.
You will not be able to mount your engine to the GM transmission. There is no adapter that I am aware of and most likely the torque of the 400M( I've owned one, their torqy) would destroy it.
Someone is going to come on probably start yapping about ford junk blah blah blah. The truth is, their very similar.

just get a chevy 400 SB or 350. ford motors are good too but it would be easier with a chevy engine. With a chevy small block v8, there is a kit you can buy that has everything you need including motor mounts, special headers that go around the steering column, and a few other things. good luck.

You may have the Ford motor sitting there already, but it will be much easier if you try a Chev V8 instead. General motors makes a lot of engine options ,so there are parts to allow for the interchange. I understand that there are a number of electronic problems to solve to make everything work well. I also would expect overheating problems (especially if you intend to drive it hard)

I don't like little trucks anyways, but why in the world would you put a ford engine in a chevy truck? Good luck, this is going to be a lot of work, that you are not going to be ready for, I'd just put a chevrolet small block in it, cheaper, and A LOT easier.

get a torch and a welder and a ton of money. really trade the forn engine for a small block chev..with the ford almost everything will have to be custom made...a 350 is easy compaired to what you are thinking...many web sites for the chev swap...[V8 S10 on web]
