Because of it's bearings on our lively-hood. Taxes, restrictions, just anything that affects our private lives are determined in poitics. Such like legislation puposed by the president concerning health care. If we are taxed on the benefits our employer offers the inticement of working for that employer is no longer that great. It's like getting an extra income without being taxed on it. If the law passes, we no longer have a "benefit" supplyed by our employer, we now have an extra income. Like in the Carter administration, we were offerd a non-taxeable income of 70% of our income if we lost our job because of foriegn competition. Politics plays a role in our private lives and how we support our familys. When considering the impact on our money and the means of support for our children, politics can get down right dirty.

It can directly affect our lives. If some bleeding heart gets a new tax passed for their pet cause that takes money directly out of my pocket and food from the mouths of my children. That causes me to experience rather strong feelings.

Every time the government grows, it is less money and less freedom that I as an individual have. The real question is: Why don't more people pay attention to politics? Barely 50% vote.

Because people think that they are right - in their philosophy, outlook on life, religious practices (or non practices) etc. And if you don't agree with them, then you must be confused. So if they pound you in the head with their beliefs, you may see the light of what is "right". I think the "strong feelings" are cultivated from the confusion of why someone doesn't view the world the same way you do.

Because people are generally strong willed and absolutely hate to admit when they are wrong. People have strong opinions because we as a people have a strong desire to be apart of something. It is difficult for people to be humble. These characteristics are super charged in political discussions. That's why.

For the same reason that they have strong feelings about their religion or their ancestry.
Every Muslim knows his religion is the only real one. Christians are sure of theirs. Jews certainly know that they preceded the others, so it's the real one.
People of German ancestry know Germans are superior to anyone else. Italians, French, Russians, Chinese, and all the rest know they're tops.
And so it goes.

It reassures people that they are smart if they could voice their opinions on strong issues like politics. The strong feelings are driven by opinions, and this feeling that they are right, and anyone who disagrees with them are wrong. Sad to say, we are a country filled with opinions. At least, that's my opinion.

Because they elect a politician to represent them and then the politician refuses to take care of the people that elected him.
80 % of Americans are against illegal aliens but the politicians can't wait to give our country to any cockroach that crawls across the border.
