We get some great British comedies (at least I think so) on PBS here: "Coupling" / "Fawlty Towers" / "As Time Goes By" / "My Hero" / "My Family" / "Allo, Allo!" / "Vicar Of Dibley" / "Blackadder" / "Father Ted" / etc, etc. - I love them all! - Can't get enough of them! I only wish that we got more! I love the "British wit" of these shows! I was just wondering what the opinion of them was back "at home!" - Signed: "An American Cousin" :-)

What a coincidence, i was only saying to my old man how i love American comedies. Just got into That 70's show, love South Park, Simpsons, I guess you love our comedy for the same reason I love yours - they're so completely different. I think British comedy tends to try to be 'clever' (Black Adder, Monty P, Fawlty Towers - quite a lot of Oxford Uni influence in these I think) My Family because great quality actors (Robert Lindsey & Zoe Wannamaker) because lets be honest, the premise is very humdrum. My hero because the lead is Irish, same as Father Ted so perhaps it's the Irish sense of humour we like there. Allo Allo? Mmmm that ones a bit lost on me as its years since i've seen it, perhaps it falls in the category of farce? Sorry to woffle, i'll stop now.
Love Malcolm in the Middle too.

I absolutely love My Family, The Vicar of Dibley, Blackadder (all 4 episodes).

As Time Goes By is a good one, but I wouldn't say one of my favourites.

Not keen on Fawlty Towers, but I don't like things like Mr Bean either, that spoofy, tongue in cheek humour doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. Allo Allo comes in to the "not my thing" category too.

Father Ted I've only seen a couple of episodes of, but from what I've seen it's funny.

No opinion on My Hero or Coupling as I've not really seen them. From the adverts of My Hero, it's not one I would enjoy particularly.

Someone else mentioned Only Fools and Horses, that's great too :)

I also love the ones we import here too, Friends, Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens, the Simpsons, fabby! Ooh, and how could I forget Will and Grace?!

Unfortunately I no longer have Sky tv, so I only have the 4 terrestrial channels :( Channel 4 shows all of the above, so I can still get my fix!

Most of the ones you have listed have been around for years. I don't/haven't watched them all but still watch reruns of Fawlty Towers, and the Vicar of Dibley and Father Ted were really popular. The best of the lot has been Only Fools and Horses though- hope you get that, if not, watch out for it.
There is a fairly new series over here called Shameless, it's quite shocking at times but one of the funniest things I've seen in decades.

Blackadder, Fawlty Towers and Father Ted are brilliant even all these years after they stopped making them.

I love your comedies such as Ugly Betty and My Name is Earl - I never miss an episode of either because they make me double over in laughter.

Hi cousin
The programmes you mention are all very popular in England. I'm very glad you like them. But there are many more good British programmes that don't make it to American T.V. because the programmers think the humour will not translate to American audiences. Try and pester them a bit to get some much better programmes on your T.V.

Yes, those are some of the best of the British comedies. When I was in the States I also saw "Keeping up Appearances", another of my favourites.
However, there are some really bad comedies too, and hopefully you'll never have to sit through any of those.
