I am assuming this is a gas fired boiler. It is probably a faulty thermocouple. You see that little piece of copper next to your standing pilot flame? There is a long copper tube attached, and screws into your main gas valve. This is the thermocouple. Remove it, buy another of equal length at Home Depot, etc., replace it, and then try your pilot. Bet that takes care of it.

There may be 2 faults causing this. First it could be backdraft in the boiler flu which is causing the pilot to go out. This requires the pilot flame to be adjusted so the flame is stronger. Second, the thermocouple could need replacing. This is the thin copper tube that is alongside the pilot light, and by the pilot there is a tip on the end which is heated by the pilot flame, the other end is fitted into the main gas valve on the boiler. I would suggest you replace this first to see if this is the problem because the pilot flame will have to be adjusted by a gas engineer. You can Buy a universal thermocouple which fits most boilers, and when you fit it, do not have any kinks in the tube. If you do it will not work because the alchohol cannot expand in the tube. Good luck.

May be because either you might have filled the water to a level more than prescribed or the boiler was already in use just a little before and its contact with the cut off switch has not yet been got fully detached

Sound like the pilot thermostat, is faulty, this keeps the pilot alight, when it reaches a certain temp.It is not difficult to remove, make sure you note its location, in relation to the pilot tip, before you disconnect, its the small pilot burner whichdirects the flame over it to sence you have a good pilot

Thermocouple, plumb centres have universal ones on the shelf, but take model number with you to check it is compatable
