Is it possible that you accidentally posted this in the "Japan" section? This question does not appear to be related at all to Japan.

In response to the question however, there are two ways to deal with being part of a group that is sometimes judged unfairly. The first way, is to feel the need to unite as a group to address the problem. This is the most productive strategy. The second, is to view everyone else as threats to your own chances of advancement.

If you choose to see others as threatening, then it angers you to see one of them rise above you. If YOU are the one who rises above, then you want to make sure that they do not have the opportunity to do the same, because of a false belief that only one of you can be on top. When you think in this manner, you obviously want to remain on top, resulting in the sabotage of other people (in the workplace, this usually is done through comments about the other person's work ethic, or simply stating that someone else is "better qualified".)

This is not only an African-American thing. Any group that is not well-represented in an area may develop this sort of mindset. For example, when women try to better themselves by putting other women down, it is called "Me-first feminism" and really hurts the fight towards equality, rather than helping it, but it is appealing because the woman on top is reaping the benefits.

Most ae busy sucking what they can out of the system. They see another African- American doing the right thing and it's like their pissed your not feeding off the system. Unless your a rapper, drug dealer, basketball player, then your a God. Sad..There's a lot of opportunity and diversity has bought more. The sad thing is most would rather cry that the white man is still holding em down. Give me a break.
