Why is the phrase "its all downhill from here." used to proclaim that matters will get more difficult to handle, when in real life it is easier to go down hills than up them?

I never heard it used that things will get worse--that's uphill. You might double-check your source.

Hmmm, the way I see it is that when people are trying to achieve something, it is never easy, like climbing Mount Everest, so they go forward, through the struggle uphill, but if something goes wrong, and they lose ground, it doesn't take long for them to be rolling down the hill to where they started. And at that point theres no way to regain your footing.

You already make it up the hill, but something went wrong, now it is all downhill, meaning , you must climb that darn thing again !
