I'm seventeen weeks pregnant, I'm still not showing. I still sleep on my stomach sometimes, will that hurt my baby though? Oh yeah... why is it my friend who is only 11 weeks shows more than I do? Shouldn't I be showing a lot by now?

I didnt start showing til about 30 wks and until I started to notice the "bump" I slept on my stomach. You will not hurt the baby but trust me it will start to get harder and harder to stay sleeping in that position

First question, it probably won't hurt your baby. My doctor told me that it's less about hurting the baby, and more about how it is NOT comfortable to sleep on your stomach when you're big pregnant. Since you're asleep, though, it's a little hard to "decide" not to sleep on your stomach. When you get further along and it's uncomfortable, you just won't be able to without it being uncomfortable for you.

Second question, everyone shows at different stages. My sisters are both pregnant, due within a month of each other. The one due sooner has only recently started to show (and she's getting big FAST). My other sister, who is not as far along as the other, has been in maternity clothes for a few weeks earlier. Every pregnancy is different (even your own pregnancies with different kids). When I was pregnant the first time around, it seemed like forever before I was showing. By about eight weeks into my second pregnancy, it was obvious and I was having to be in maternity clothes. The "should be's" are really varied. The main thing is that your baby should have a healthy growth pattern, movement and heart rate, you should be within certain boundaries as far as blood pressure, blood sugar, urine output, etc. Everything else, like how big you are, how high or low the baby is carried, how nauseous you get, etc. is all up to chance.

Good luck, and congratulations.

You are very unlikely to hurt your baby (but you might start becoming more uncomfortable as the weeks pass!)...your baby lives in the most sophisticated, shock absorbing environment possible...your body protects your baby very well...sleeping on your tummy isn't going to hurt the little one!

At 17 weeks, your belly could easily not be showing...some people just don't show until they're 7 months (or later!) especially if this is your first child (you'll show later). You can't really compare baby bumps with others because each pregnant woman is different and so is her baby belly!

Good luck!

Sleeping on your back can cause problems in the later part of pregnancy because the weight of the baby compresses a large artery that delivers blood to the lower part of your body (including the uterus!), but sleeping on your stomach is usually just too uncomfortable! That's why doctors suggest sleeping on your left side (sleeping on the right side may decrease the amount of blood flowing to your internal organs, I believe).

I slept partially on my stomach until about 6 months when it became too uncomfortable.

About your friend -- if it's not her first baby, her uterus will protrude a LOT sooner than a first time mom.

people show differantly, i am 6 months and just as big as another girl at work that is 8 months. I slept on my belly during both pregnancies till a absolutely couldn't anymore. My son is a perfectly healthy 7 year old and the baby i'm carring now looked perfect on ultrasound, i am still sleeping on my stomach with a pillow under one side. i just prefer to be on my stomach.

no - you can sleep on your stomach as long it is comfortable for you - the baby is protected very well. Different people show at different times - also people carry different. I am only showing now at about 18 weeks. One day you will just pop!! Good luck

No, it's not a problem...sleep however you are comfortable.

And not everyone "shows" the same amount at the same time...your body type, the size of the fetus, ect will have a bearing on how much your belly protrudes. Some women go through their pregnancy never really appearing to be pregnant (esp if they wear loose/baggy clothing).

The book, "What to expect when you expecting" says to sleep in whatever position makes you comfortble as long as you can. Pretty soon you will not be able to sleep on your stomach. And as far as showing, I am 27 weeks and I just started showing...

No, sleeping on your stomach won't hurt the baby. And everybody's different. It's O.K. if you're not showing yet. Everyone carries differently.

everyone shows different at differnt times. And sleeping on your stomach won't hurt baby. When you feel uncomfortable, you will automatically sleep on your side or back
