He's her "ex" son in law. Just like an "ex" husband. An ex husband is not your husband. An ex girlfriend, is no longer a girlfriend. See the pattern?

Legally in the courts eye, the answer is no. But some family members feel that they are even though that they aren't legal anymore. Basically what your mom is stating is the same thing how someone would feel that their best friend is more like a sister/brother even though it's not true. By her thinking that, she's thinking that he's still your husband even though he isn't.

The divorce decree says you are returned to the status of single and unmarried persons. If you re-marry wouldn't that make your new husband the new son in law ?

Well, you are both right. By LAW, he is no longer her son-in-law anymore than he is your husband. She may consider him her son-in-law if she likes but as long as she keeps in mind that he is the EX-son-in-law. Hope this helps and Bon appitite

my parents are divorced and her family still considers him as part of the family because he is such a good man, father the best! But i can see how it would bother you tell her and she should respect how you feel but you both should respect each others feelings.I'm pregnant and steak sounds really good.If you show her divorce papers maybe that would help if not,as long as you and he knows you're divorced your mom will juts have to see it in her own time .leave it alone

I would prefer.. ex son-in-law, but she has a valid point. If you had children and got divorced.. they would still be her grandkids and his parents grandkids as well. His brothers would still be uncles, etc. No proof... just an opinion.

A son-in-law is the husband of your daughter. You are divorced. You are correct.

Nope, sorry mom, your daughters ex-husband is not her husband anymore, so your ex-son-in-law is not your son-in-law anymore. Proof is common sense. See above. :)
