Diamond Dave, or Sammy?

Diamond Dave was a better showman...
Sammy Hagar was a better musician...
Van Halen had enough musicianship...I vote for David Lee Roth....

Sammy Hagar is a better singer and David Lee Roth is a better showman. It all depends on which of those you value most. However, as much as I appreciate good musicianship, I think the band was more fun and entertaining when Diamond Dave was the frontman. Most of their most memorable songs were released during that time. Although I admire Sammy Hagar, I just can't even picture him singing a song like "Hot for Teacher" with the same zany conviction Dave brought to it.

I personally prefer Sammy to Dave. Yeah, Dave is funny, but Sammy is an awesome musician. I saw VH in concert with Sammy, and he sounded great doing the old songs as well as the "Van Hagar" stuff.

I have much love for Sammy "The Red Rocker"; the dude puts on a good show.
That said, Diamond Dave is the front man of all front men. He was all show and crowd pleasing and full of energy.

Dave was the better showman. Sammy was around for the golden age. You're forgetting about Steve Perry.

DLR- the band lost their balls without him. They never could have done an song like Mean Streets with Sammy, he doesn't have that attitude that comes through in Dave's voice.

I like old Dave, but he was so damn cocky and didn't get along w/the other band members.. Always saying the band couldn't go on w/out him....
I guess Sammy showed him! But I did love ol' dave..

DLR!! I just liked their music better with him. But I do like a solo Sammy and he does put on a great show.
