I find the first reply rather troublesome - Firefox is free, completely and totally. The download is free, the add-ons are free, the help forums are free.

Internet Explorer is the actual name of Microsoft's browser, so I think you're looking for the best "browser" out there.

Opinions vary, but the vast majority of reviewers have found that Firefox is much better than even IE7. It's smaller, safer, more up to date, shows pages correctly, is constantly improving, has very few flaws and any security flaws found are fixed much, much faster.

The reason I like it? The add-ons:
Adblock Plus blocks ads - banner ads, flash ads, iframe ads.
Adblock Plus: Element Hiding Helper - allows you to get rid of text ads, boxes that contained ads that were blocked and other annoyances.
FoxyTunes - control your music player without switching to it.
CookieSafe - block cookies until you ok them. Sites use cookies to track what you're doing, etc. Increases privacy.
NoScript - block javascripts (and more) until you ok them. Increases privacy and security.

And there are literally about a thousand more... all free.

I like Internet Explorer 6 (seven just seems plain messed up right now). If it's a choice between 7 or Firefox, I would go with Firefox however, it seems to work pretty well, although slower to me.

Personally, I prefer FireFox over Internet Explorer. It's fast and secure. Tabbed browsing is also another feature of it that I enjoy. Instead of opening 5 different IE browser windows to view 5 different sites, you can just open one window of FireFox and have 5 different tabs with pages to view.

On top of that, it's customizable. It's also less clunky which I also like.

Actually, the best one is the one you are most comfortable with. Personally, I tried IE7, didn't like it - got rid of it and went back to IE6. I also tried Mozilla Firefox, and while I liked it ok, too many websites won't accept it, and I kept having to switch back and forth. So, instead of doing that, I'm staying with IE6, until Microsoft gets all the bugs out of IE7.

internet explorer 7

On February 15, 2005, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates announced that the new version of its browser would be released at the RSA Conference 2005 in San Francisco.[3] The decision to update the browser occurred in the wake of declining market share due to the spread of the Mozilla Firefox browser. Microsoft also stated that Internet Explorer 7 is available only for Windows XP SP2 and later, including Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows Vista. The first beta version of the browser was released on July 27, 2005 for technical testing, and a first public preview version of Internet Explorer 7 (Beta 2 preview: Pre-Beta 2 version) was released on January 31, 2006. The final public version was released on October 18, 2006. Version 7 is intended to defend users from phishing as well as deceptive or malicious software, and it also features full user control of ActiveX and better security framework, including not being integrated as much with Windows [4] as previous versions, thereby increasing security. It also includes important bug fixes, enhancements to support the web standards, improvements in HTML 4.01/CSS 2, Tabbed Browsing with Tab preview and management, a multiple engine search box, a web feeds reader, Internationalized Domain Name support (IDN), and Antiphishing filter. The new version also blocks applets such as Flash movies and Java, the latter of which could add malware to the user's computer.

On Windows Vista, Internet Explorer operates in a special "Protected Mode", which runs the browser in a security sandbox that has no access to the rest of the operating system or file system, except the Temporary Internet Files folder. When running in Protected Mode, IE7 is a low integrity process; it cannot gain write access to files and registry keys in a user's profile. This feature aims to mitigate problems whereby newly-discovered flaws in the browser (or in Add-Ons hosted inside it) allowed hackers to subversively install software on the user's computer (typically spyware).[5][6]

The Windows Vista and XP version of Windows Internet Explorer 7 additionally feature an update to the WinInet API. The new version has better support for IPv6, and handles hexadecimal literals in the IPv6 address. It also includes better support for Gzip and deflate compression, so that communication with a web server can be compressed and thus will require less data to be transferred. [7] [8] Internet Explorer Protected Mode support in WinInet is exclusive to Windows Vista.

I think FireFox is the best. I love the tabs [yes. I'm aware of the fact that IE has tabs now <_< ] and I'm pretty sure its slightly faster [ i have dial-up. i do whatever i can to get things to go faster]. FireFox is more customizable too. I haven't used IE in forever so i don't really know how customizable it is. Yup. That about sums it up.

With as many IE7 equipment faults as i've got heard approximately, somewhat frankly IE6 is a extra good browser. :-P yet, dropping the editorializing and attending on your question ... in case you uninstall IE7 (administration Panel - upload/eliminate classes), your computing device will roll itself returned to IE6. And sure, you will nevertheless be waiting to get on line. yet another probability is to get carry of the main cutting-edge loose version of Firefox. yet because of the fact it sounds like IE7 has tousled your connection, you're able to get that fastened first. nevertheless yet another probability: do a equipment restoration to a component until now you downloaded the main cutting-edge around of updates. which could get IE7 working returned. Then, whilst abode windows as quickly as returned provide you with the updates, use the custom mode and decline the replace for IE7. wish that facilitates. good success!

Fire fox, you get two search engines, one of which you can change at will, ie: Amazon, E bay etc. You are directed to the homepage of the site you are looking for. No pop up interference, it's quick and safe and not full of Microsoft cr*p that you may not want.
