Choke the engine and attempt to start until it wants to fire. Once it tries to run, disengage the choke, start it and allow to warm up for a minute or two. You might also want to check the fuel mixture of oil and gas to be sure it is correct. Could be your spark plug is fowled or improperly gapped. good luck.

OK, if you're supposed to cold-start your trimmer on Setting 3, that means Setting 3 is full choke, which means no air is getting to your carburetor. When you start your trimmer, let it run for a little while on Setting 3 but don't pull the gas lever -- just let it sit. After 20 seconds or so, or if the engine starts to sputter a bit, switch it to Setting 2, which I'm guessing is half-choke. At that point you should be able to pull the gas lever, but it may still bog down and die if you do that. If that happens, restart on Setting 2, let it sit for 10-20 seconds and then switch to Setting 1, which SHOULD be the regular setting that will allow the proper mixture of gas and air to get into the carburetor. Once the engine is warm, you should be able to shut your trimmer off and then start it up again by simply pulling on the starter cord.
