Awwww . . . Pip, you're really stretching things here !! And maybe if he built a house the size of Memphis, then that would somehow justify his gross energy use !!!???!!!??
The point of it all is this. . . . . He made himself King Guru of energy conservation . He did it . His choice . So, he's gonna be held accountable for his choices !! It's the 'goose and gander' thing all over again !!
Can anyone have an abortion, or several, and then go waltzing around the country championing the Anti-Abortion Cause ?? LMAO, not a chance !!!
A hypocrite is a hypocrite is a hypocrite. . . . there's absolutely no way around this one !!
EDIT*- Ya see what this question attracts ? People who say. . . 'wait til we find out what Republican's Mansions use for energy'. ... . and 'oh, it's only Faux News talking points'. . . or 'they always want to keep us divided.' . .. .. .THAT'S what WE, Conservatives have been talking about. . Democrats not answering the question and in fact denying it's existence, relevance or factuality .
ALL IGNORED the FACT that Al Gore is the Self-Appointed, Self-Anointed Champion of Global Warming. . . . not the Republicans with their mansions . Divisiveness ? Oh really. . so talking about FACTS is now DIVISIVE to Democrats . Faux News talking points. . . . . Bullshiit. . . . Now that's the divisive attitude that WE talk about. . . . . .ignoring facts .
So just how do we unite without the FACTS and the ability to acknowledge and discuss them ? HYPOCRITES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His mansion probably is pretty green compared to other mansions. The problem is he wants ME to live in a shack and walk to work while he flies around in private jets and uses up 20 times more electricity and gas than I do at home. Then he makes himself feel good about it by paying someone to plant a tree.

pip, the relative energy use of Al's mansion is not the point. How many people with a mansion that size go around preaching on the environment other than Al?
It makes him look hypocritical to have such a home (the 'greenness' of which is open to debate) and do this.

Yes, but THEY are not out taughting that WE must change OUR lives. The point isn't just that his home uses 1000% more than the average home in his town it is that he is telling us that WE need to change when he is unwilling to do so.
He has every right to live in a big house but shouldn't he place some of the money he has made on his movie and speaking engagements back into modifing his home? Should he not follow the same standards that he sets for us? He should practice what he preaches

The merits of the scientific arguments about global warming/climate change have a smuch to do with Al Gore's electric bill as the merits of gay rights have to do with Ted Haggard's sex life.
Both men are arguably hypocrites. But what matters to society is the merits of the argument, not what the proponent of the argument does.
2+2 does not equal 5 just becaose someone we despise says it's 4.

Last I checked his families size doesn't require 20 bedrooms, and a guest house. Its all greed. It's what the rich do. Live to excess. Maybe he is green, but he is still greedy and a hypocrite in my eyes.

once you do see a comparison of energy use between Gore's mansion and the cost to run comparable Republicans mansion, this topic of discussion will likely end.

Have you considered others with houses of the same size, aren't going around the world preaching their doctrine meanwhile not practicing what they preach.

He's totally green because he buys green power blocks to subsidize his power usage. So even though he uses more, he's doing less damage than a typical household.

There is a story on yahoo that explains that he offsets his energy use by investing in renewable energy. However, I would be in favor of calling Gore out as soon as Bush decides to go fight in Iraq. You have to stand up for what you believe in, right?
