There is no meaning of life - you are born - you grow older and then you die - that's it!

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

I wish I knew. Sometimes I wonder if this is like a testing ground for whatever is next - although I have no idea what is next. We could be put here to help the earth develop to its full potential - which didnt work as we are killing it !

Were we ever meant to design and develop some of the things we have such as weapons etc or where we meant to stay like cavemen where we could live very basically. I often wonder if our advancement of the brain and intelligence was an error as I cant see us destroying things being in the 'great plan' of things

there is a great story about how the buddha, some 2500 years ago, sat before his students in silence and held up a flower. one of the students smiled, and the buddha remarked that this student alone had received his teaching for that day.

what is the meaning of a flower? and by extension - what is the meaning of life?

who can say. life simply is. it seems to me that we are focussed on a misleadingly framed question. rather, we should be asking "how can we live fully?". now THAT'S an interesting question :)

TO LIVE!!

Run, Walk, Smile, Laugh, Work, Cry, Feel Pain, Have Sex, Have your heart broken, get a new job, get fired, buy a gift, buy a car, buy a house, get married, have kids, get divorced, get old, teach the young, learn from the old, learn from mistakes, have fun, surf, ride a bike, ride a motorcycle, drive a boat or plane, be with friends, be with family, talk about enemies, watch a movie, read a book, take drugs, get drunk, be happy, be sad, get sick, get better.

That is the meaning of life, to live it! Go everything that you ever wanted, because without those things we would be dead, and death my dear is a whole another question.

You should rephrase the question to "What is A meaning of life?" There is no one set answer, you go through life and find your own meaning.
