Who figured out that adding sugar to a nasty tasting coca bean

The Aztecs - though they used honey, not sugar. To them, chocolate ("xocholatl") was a sacred food of the Gods, and only priest and royals were allowed to have it.

The Aztecs had a chocolate drink that they dedicated to the gods because it tasted so good. Cortez may have improved upon it with sugar. But now that I think about it, could have been the Incas or Mayas. One of the three invented chocolate.

Nestle or Cadbury can answer the question better, but it has become one of the most addctive foods! But chocolate in itself is now credited with a lot of health benefits for heart.
