Yes, we had a black cat that the vet said must have been abused in his former home - he was missing some teeth and had some old rib injuries.
Despite "not liking" pets, my father soon became his pal and would let the cat sleep on his lap. We have quite a few photos of them both zonked out in an easy chair.
The cat died about 5-6 years after he "adopted" us. He had this very odd habit of peeing on hot tires. Whenever a car would pull into the driveway and stop, he would immediately run up to it and pee on the tire. One day he didn't move fast enough when the car wasn't completely stopped.
The vet told us he was riddled with feline lukemia, which might explain why his reactions were slow that day, and that he probably only had a few months to live anyway. But still, it was a sad day when the "hot tire habit" caused his demise.

We were adopted by a stray cat although we had 3 of our own.The stray was welcomed by our cats and lived for a very happy 18 years with us.He gave us a lot of pleasure until he died this Spring.
