It depends on what kind of advice and what sort of relationship you currently have with your boss.

If it's career-related, it doesn't hurt to ask.

But if it's non-work related advice, I'd be very cautious.

If you have an informal relationship with your boss, as in you two talk all the time, know about each others' lives, etc, then maybe it won't be so bad, depending on what you want to ask. If your relationship is more formal... forget it.

You're basically going to tread into waters unknown, because your boss is your BOSS. As in they evaluate you as an employee, and do you really want to mix up your work life with your personal life? Why don't you ask someone else? Why is it your boss that has to be the one you want advice from?
