Hi
DDR and DDR3 are different sizes of ram (random acsess memory) so if you want to expand your pcs ram you can usually find the size (or name) of it on the ram in your pc.
GPU is a global processing unit, it helps to transmit data.
A cpu is a centeral processing unit. You can usually get good deals on pc stuff at www.misco.co.uk or at www.maplins.co.uk

ddr(double data rate) and ddr2 are different speeds of memory, ddr being the slower of the two
memory comes in certain speeds measured in megahertz(mhz),the oldest memory is sd-ram(single data ram) and comes in speeds from 66mhz to 133mhz
then came the ddr memory which comes in speeds from 266mhz up to 400mhz(pc2100-pc3200)
finally came ddr2 memory which comes in speeds from 533mhz up to the latest which come in at a whopping 1066mhz(pc8000)
ddr3 memory is what graphic card manufacturers are currently using in their latest cards such as the nvidia ge-force 8800gtx
before i can recommend a graphics card for you i need to the graphic interface your dell p.c has, there are three possible types 1.pci-express(the newest) 2.a.g.p 3pci-bus(the oldest type)
when looking for a graphic card the main things you need to take into consideration are 1)memory 2)core clock 3)core memory
also to play the latest games you need to make sure your card has pixel and shader model 3.0
for pci-express cards you should be looking at the nvidia 7 seies of cards, these start at around £40 and go up to £350,for a cheap end card i would recommend the nvidia geforce 7300gt(http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=503546)this has a good core clock of 520mhz and a memory clock of 1400mhz
for a high end card i would go for the nvidia geforce 7900gt(http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=392228),this has near enough the same clock and memory speeds but can play games faster and at higher resolutions
as for a agp type card there is only one card worth buying, the radeon x1950pro(http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=521950)is the best agp card on the planet,it can play any game out today and play it well
for a more detailed answer i need to know the type of graphic card you need
good luck
