Lots of questions, all which have long answers. I'll try to keep it short and give you some helpful links.

First of all, its called stretching. Its something you can do on your own or something a professional piercer can do for you. My ears are almost at my target size of 1/2 inch :D

Cost depends on how you go about stretching; its cheaper to do it yourself, but it can be worth it to spend the extra money to have a piercer do it for you or to get a stretching kit.

The simple explanation is that larger sized jewelry is used to stretch the ears fistula to create a large hole. Often tapers are used because they gradually stretch the ears and minimize risk of tearing or ripping the skin. The process is simple, but still easy to screw up. Its important to not skip gauges and wait plenty of time for your ears to heal between stretches.

As far as when they'll go back to normal, its hard to say. Everyone is different and depending on the elasticity is in your ears, its questionable how bit you'll be able to go before its too late. Plus is damage is done when stretching they might never heal up correctly (this happens from blow-outs and tears) Typically 2g is the point of no return, but like I said, that can vary based on the individual. Usually past 2g or at least 0g surgery can be needed to get 'normal' lobes.

A cheap stretching 'kit':

A better stretching kit (and one I strongly recommend for do-it-yourselfers):

If you have specific questions about it, feel free to ask me, or call a local piercer and talk with them. I wish you luck.

Can't think what they call this - not enough coffee. Go to a place that does body piercing instead of a place that does ears. You would get a "stretcher" put in - and keep working to larger sizes with time.

And NO - the hole will stay stretched forever. (They look GROSS w/o something in them.) Ever see a little old granny who used to wear heavy earrings? Their ear holes look like slits - they can't wear regular posts (they fall through!) and they probably find it funny as heck that they have fashionable ear holes . . .

they start with a small ring or stud to get the whole started, after some time they take it out and put a bigger one in over and over until the desired size you want. I believe that once it is out, it will probably stay stretched some, I doubt it would return to normal.

it rather is basically a piercing, would be unable to you wait till your sixteen? you may injury you mum and dad emotions in case you bypass at the back of their backs. No i does not injury. there is greater of of undertaking of your ears getting contaminated in case you get it pierced with a gun, it rather is optimal to get it performed with a needle (frightening i be responsive to) even nevertheless it rather does not injury, for a chop up 2d it hurts a tiny bit yet then the ear is going numb. Gok Wan has stretched ear lobes, so till your making plans to stretch your ears, i could decide for the stud. good success on in spite of you decide on for.

Ok, it's not new.
You buy an expander from shops for about 4pounds. I reccommend you don't go to more than a 3mm for your first one.
I had an 8mm (0g) plug in mine, took it out about a week ago and is near enough back to normal.

theyre called 'tunnels'
first of all, you start with small tunnels, then gradually get bigger
depending on the size of the hole, they might go back to normal but if its big, then i dont think it will

It stays stretched because of the size disk they put in it.
