Oh boy! Now THERE'S a question. Let me try to help you out.

West coast swing dance - dancers dance in a "slot". The dancers dance within the slot back and forth. The dance can be danced slow or fast depending on the music. Either way it is a smooth dance. Of all the swing dances it is the one that can be done at clubs to modern music.

Lindy Hop - this is the dance people think of when you say swing dancing. The guys toss the girls around and do aerials. It's a very high energy dance usually danced to big band music.

Balboa - is danced in a close position with chests touching. It looks like the dancers are bouncing around on the floor while hugging.

Shag - closest to west coast swing but TOTALLY different. The dance is all about the guy, the girl basically just keeps the beat. Usually danced by older people but some youngsters are giving it a new life. Usually danced to beach/bop music.

I hope that answers your question. Watch the videos, it's easier to show someone than telling about dance. :)
