I loved it but its really different to what I expected. It is vast and you just dont realise this until you have driven for nearly five hours and seen no other cars. It is very clean, friendly and a great place to visit. If you go to Queensland you must go to Lady Elliot Island on the Great Barrier Reef, it is the only island you can stay on and is fantastic for diving, snorkelling, wildlife, fish and food. They have a website check it out because it is an amazing place to visit my kids were snorkelling with black tip reef sharks, rays, turtles and all sorts of fish and I can quite honestly say it is the happiest I have ever seen them it is an amazing place. It is a tiny island you can walk round it in about forty minutes, it is a 45 minute flight from Hervey Bay. I preferred the country to the cities as these were so busy.

I grew up in Oz. It is like anywhere else, there are good bits and bad bits! Its a great lifestyle for those willing to work hard, obviously the weather is pretty good in most cities, (Don't go to Tasmania if you don't like rain!), and the people are generally friendly. It does have its bad points too, There is a lot of racism aimed at the Aboriginies (not too much prejudice against anyone else, suprisingly), It is a hell of a long way from pretty much everywhere and obviously if you have any issues with snakes, spiders, sharks, jellyfish, big f**king ants etc. you may want to avoid it!
All in all, if it were closer to Europe it would be ideal!

I only spent a month there, that was about 8 years ago,and I still miss it so much-it really felt like home. Stayed in a place called Yepoon,10 hours drive from Brisbane, right on the Barrier Reef, and it was amazing. A totally different way of life, everyone's so laid back and friendly-if you get a chance to go,take it. And don't worry about the spiders,snakes,bugs,etc-they won't bother you if you don't bother them! (And if anybody reading this wants to take me back, just ask me!!!!)

Australia is a nice place to visit for holidays...not so nice to live...depends on the person and thier upbringing really, for me, brought up as an expat born in Australi grown up in Asia, I find Asutralia beautiful yet frustratingly ignorant in many places..they claim to be a multi cultural country, yet they imprison refugees....the government is the problem mainly, and tall poppy syndrome is quite common also, if you are not aware, then this is when people are successful within thier own right, australians tend to like to cut them down...obviously that is a generalisation, and there are many wonderful australians...but if your of any ethnicity other than white be careful in Queensland...they are still quite behind..even my own family are racist/sexist etc...
But, like I said Australia is a very beautiful place and there are some lovely people and I would definately recommend it for a holiday!

Its fantastic. My girlfriend and I went there in Aug 2005. We started in Sydney (which is an amazing city) and flew to Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, back to Sydney in the course of a month. We didn't cover the West coast, but certainly got a lot of different aspects to the country because there's many differences between North and South.

We went to Australia as part of our 'round the world' honeymoon we went to Cairns and scuba dived off the Great Barrier Reef - that was awesome we met a giant wrasse called Wally. We went to Brisbane and Sydney and they have a great zoo in Sydney called Taranga zoo also you can walk up to the top of sydney harbour bridge, but you are not allowed to take jewellery or camera's up with you.

My daughter lives there ( in Broome-way north west).Have been many times to several places, Sydney,Albany,Cairns,Brisbane,Port Douglas,Alice. The thing to remember is that it is a veranda country-not much in the middle!
For young people it's great, twenty years younger and I would emigrate. Downside, poor mans America, crap beer and TV. Hope you enjoy yourself.

Have been a number of times to PERTH in West Australia and I loved it. If I had gone in my40s instead of my 70s I and my wife would have been sorely tempted to go there. PC fortunately has not quite got the hold there that it has in the UK, A BREATH OF FRESH AIR FOR AN OAP WHO IS NOT pc.
