Good luck with whatever you decide to do - it's a tough one. Maybe you should wait at least until he's in his new position for 3 months..if he's a good friend/mentor/boss - he'll give good counsel about whether you should really join him

The best way to really see if you'd take the job, objectively, is to make a pro and con list.

First job: manager is stuck in his ways, more work, different hours but more money

Second job: you like your manager, you love your hours, are comfortable but make less money

It seems like the only factor is money.

Try this: How many extra hours would you be working each week? And compare the two.

Example:

1st job: 40 hours a week at $30,000 a year
2nd job: 80 hours a week at $60,000 a year

If you look at it objectively, you're making the same amount of money. The only difference is that your 2nd job pays you over time :P

Also consider benefits plan, 401k, re-location, quality of life (which includes your schedule as well.....)

It really sounds from the tone of your message that you want to stay where you are, but ultimately, we can't tell you what to do. It's your life, not ours, and you have to live with the consequences.

Only you can answer this question. I would take the new job--but then, my children are grown--so it wouldn't matter what hours I needed to work. If you have young children who need you at home, you might want to stay with the comfortable hours.

i'd go with the new job, if i am looking for better salary.
however, u'd better consider in which job yr position is better? which position leads u to a promotion in the near future ?
a good position looks better in a CV than a good salary
