When we get up out of the bed and start walking around, we are doing work since the body has a mass and it is moving around against the frictional force exerted by it on earth. When you toast bread, you are using electricity for heating the bread and that is work too. When you take out the juice from the refrigerator, the refrigerator has kept the juice cold and prevented it from getting spoilt, by removing heat from the inside of the fridge to outside. That is work. Heating your home, lighting your home, all involves work. Lifts and motors working in your building, car taking you to college, everything involves work.

Nearly everything involves work and simple machines: lifting a fork (lever), driving a car (wheel), climbing the stairs (inclined plane), and on and on.
