How do I elucidate that hobby is writing essays and non-fiction prose?

Should I put it as writing essays or essay writing or such choice of words are not good to put in a college application?Or should I put my hobby as writing essays and proses? Please suggest a good choice of words. I like writing essays on stuff ranging frm environ to politics but I dont write short stories. Please suggest a way that I explain this interest of mine short and sweet in 2 to 4 words in the hobby category of my college application.
