YES, be careful when leaving a spades game. It will count as a loss and lower your rating IF it is a rated game.
If you want to avoid lowering your rating, ask your opponent to make the game an UNRATED game. This way it will not matter who wins or loses as the outcome of the game will not count in the ratings. In other words the unrated games are simply for fun. Of course, if the opponent is a jerk, they may refuse to unrate the game because they know it will be a win for them and increase their OWN ratings.
